We recently ran a survey where we asked professionals in the legal industry what aspects of their job search they found most frustrating.

We surveyed over 200 jobseekers on Simply Law Jobs. Here’s what they told us about their job search:

 

 

What do you find the most frustrating about searching for jobs?

45% of legal professionals said that not hearing back from an employer about a job was the most frustrating aspect when searching for jobs.

After this, 16% said applying for jobs online, which could be due to a result of issues with company websites etc.

13% said the waiting period between completing an interview, while 11% said creating a CV was frustrating.

8% said preparing for an interview was the most frustrating, and finally, 7% said that a poor recruitment process.

 

 

What is the most frustrating part about writing a CV?

32% of legal professionals said that the most frustrating part about writing a CV is the time it takes to do it – this was quite an interesting statistic for us, as over the last year, we have seen an influx of interest surrounding CV based content.

21% said that writing their personal summary was frustrating, while another 21% of legal professionals said formatting was an issue for them.

15% said writing about their experience was frustrating, while 7% said writing about their skills was more exasperating.

4% said writing about their education.

 

 

What is the most frustrating question you’ve ever been asked in an interview?

This was an open text question – we’ve picked out a few of the more popular responses below:

  • Why do you want to work here?
  • Give an example of how you dealt with a difficult situation
  • Give an example of a task you did really well
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • Will you stay with us for the foreseeable future?
  • Do you have anything you would like to ask us?
  • Salary expectations
  • Have you had a bad relationship with a manager?

 

 

What is the most frustrating part of applying for jobs online?

21% of those surveyed said that a job advert without a salary band was particularly frustrating. In a previous survey we ran, 50% of over 300 jobseekers in the legal industry also told us that they would not apply for a job if it didn’t display a salary band.

18% said a huge list of minimum requirements, while another 18% said not having enough information about a job role was frustrating.

18% also said ‘other’.

15% found that job adverts placing a huge emphasis on past experience was exasperating, while 5% said spelling errors/grammatical errors.

5% also told us that a lack of information regarding the company was frustrating.
